With the opening of The BARAI Hua Hin, Thailand’s original royal beach retreat gains a new luxury wellness destination as Hyatt’s first Unbound Collection property in the country transforms one of Hua Hin’s most celebrated spas into a boutique beachfront resort.
Thailand’s oldest seaside resort town just welcomed a significant new luxury address with the opening of The BARAI Hua Hin. The country’s first property under The Unbound Collection by Hyatt transforms a celebrated spa into a full-fledged boutique beachfront resort, signalling a new chapter for one of Hua Hin’s most recognisable wellness destinations.
For many international travellers, Hua Hin tends to sit in the shadow of Thailand’s better-known — and rowdier — beach destinations such as Phuket, Koh Samui and Krabi. Yet this Gulf of Thailand resort has long occupied a special place in the country’s history. Once a quiet fishing village, Hua Hin evolved into the preferred seaside retreat of Thai royalty and aristocracy during the early 20th century, establishing a refined coastal identity that distinguishes it from Thailand’s other more energetic resort towns.
Located along the quieter Khao Takiap coastline, The BARAI Hua Hin continues to build on that legacy while introducing Hyatt’s collection of independently-positioned luxury hotels to Thailand for the first time.

The 98-key beachfront resort occupies a site already familiar to wellness travellers, having spent the past two decades earning an international following for its destination spa, which blended traditional Thai healing philosophies with contemporary Western wellness practices. But this latest evolution expands it into a full-service hospitality concept designed around restorative travel rather than your more conventional beach holidays.
Architecture remains one of the property’s defining features. Designed by renowned Thai architect Lek Mathar Bunnag, the resort draws inspiration from the elements of earth, water, fire and air, expressed through dramatic courtyards, monumental walls, tranquil reflecting pools and shaded passageways. The resort is anchored by two contrasting swimming pools: the Forest Pool nestled within lush landscaping and the beachfront Beach Pool overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.
Accommodation comprises 67 regular guestrooms and 27 suites, along with two two-bedroom penthouses. Interiors emphasise a connection with the surrounding landscape through generous balconies, deep soaking tubs and rainfall showers, while higher-category suites add butler service, wellness rituals and daily massages for guests seeking a more personalised stay.
Wellness is central to the experience as you’d expect. At its heart is the original THE BARAI Spa, whose name references the ancient reservoirs that sustained historic civilisations. Beyond spa treatments, guests have access to a two-storey Wellness Hub housing a 24-hour fitness centre, yoga studio, holistic wellness spaces and programmes tailored around themes such as sleep recovery, longevity, women’s health, emotional wellbeing and heart health.
These offerings are overseen by integrated wellness practitioner Dr. Chuthamat Srinoi, who combines traditional Chinese medicine with complementary therapies including sound healing and mindful art.

Dining emphasises local heritage. White Cottage pays tribute to the seaside holiday homes once favoured by Siamese nobility, serving breakfast before transitioning into a restaurant focused on fresh seafood, seasonal produce and Thai-inspired flavours. Meanwhile, the restored 19th-century McFarland House — once the beachfront residence of physician and educator Dr. George Bradley McFarland — now delivers modern European cuisine alongside afternoon tea and one of Hua Hin’s longstanding Sunday brunches overlooking the sea.
While many visitors will undoubtedly spend much of their stay within the resort, its location also places guests within easy reach of some of central Thailand’s most rewarding natural attractions. You can sign up for day trips to Kui Buri National Park, Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park and the dramatic Phraya Nakhon Cave, all of which provide opportunities to explore a side of Thailand that remains relatively overlooked by international visitors before you return to the calm of the resort each evening.
The Barai Hua Hin reinforces Hua Hin’s long-standing reputation as a destination centred on slower, more restorative travel, offering a compelling option for travellers seeking a sophisticated coastal escape within a few hours of Bangkok that’s markedly different from the country’s busiest beaches.
