With roots in Jalisco’s red clay soils, the new 1800 GuachiMonton release finished in modern orange tequila liqueur casks makes a calculated move into premium territory.

Tequila lovers, here’s one for you. 1800 Tequila has announced the entry of the 1800 GuachiMonton into Singapore, a premium expression that threads the needle between heritage play and flavour experiment.

Housed in an eye-catching red ceramic bottle and finished in orange tequila liqueur casks, it walks the line between cultural homage and commercial polish — but does it move the needle for drinkers seeking more than a dressed-up bottle, especially in a spirits market so crowded with noise?

We think the answer is an unequivocal yes.

Reinterpreting heritage through flavour and form

Named after the ancient circular pyramids of Los Guachimontones in the lowlands of Jalisco, 1800 GuachiMonton draws from the same red clay soil that grows the blue Weber agave used in its production. Even the bottle’s design gestures toward that legacy – red ceramic, a circular wooden cap, and clear cues alluding to the region’s volcanic terroir.

What’s inside follows a familiar and revered process for aged tequila — 100% blue Weber agave from a single estate, cooked in masonry ovens, and then double distilled. Then there’s its maturation. Ageing takes place over 12 months in both American and French oak, with a final finish in orange tequila liqueur casks. The latter introduces a citrus note rarely seen in classic añejo expressions, positioning the spirit as a more contemporary twist on tradition.

Tequila 1800 Guachimonton is inspired by the pyramids of Los Guachimontones.

The 1800 GuachiMonton opens with inviting aromas of fresh orange citrus, honey, and ripe fruit layered over caramel and subtle wood. It has a very friendly, approachable profile; velvety smooth on the palate, it offers notes of vanilla and toffee, with underlying hints of laurel and tobacco. The finish is long and gently bittersweet, carried by a persistent note of orange.

This luxury añejo definitely has some crossover appeal.

“1800 GuachiMonton not only represents the roots of Mexican tradition and culture but also Mexican terroir and ritual,” shared Alex Coronado, Master Distiller and Head of Production at 1800 Tequila. “A nod to the fragrant orange trees surrounding the pyramids of Los Guachimontones and our family-owned distillery, the liquid is inspired by the timeless ritual of plucking fresh oranges to garnish a glass of añejo. Its decadent and persistent orange citrus flavor profile provides a premium, modern twist to an already luxurious añejo tasting experience.”

Beyond the bottle

Also notable is the brand’s nod to cultural preservation. 1800 Tequila has committed support to the conservation of Los Guachimontones, including funding for the site’s museum and education efforts, a gesture that extends the brand story beyond marketing, if not without its own strategic value.

The 1800 GuachiMonton may not rewrite the rules – tequila production is, after all, highly regulated – but its unique cask finishing offers an innovative twist and some contemporary appeal. It certainly checks the right boxes in an attempt at a mass-market premium tequila.

1800 Tequila is distributed by Octopus Distribution Networks. The 1800 GuachiMonton is now available at premium venues including Burnt Ends Bar and HighHouse, as well as for home delivery via Cellarbration.
