It’s also clear from the moment you step in that this isn’t just another urban hotel. The interiors are is an intimate love letter to Kuala Lumpur’s rich cultural tapestry — think batik motifs reimagined in contemporary form, warm wood tones, heritage ceramics, and playful nods to local neighbourhood life from hawker carts to street art that’s peppered throughout the hotel.

There’s the more modest Standard Room and a slightly larger Premium Room; then there’s the Suite option, as well as the more expansive One Bedroom Suite.
I had the opportunity to stay in a Suite, and was blown away.
You’ll first be captivated by the room’s cheeriness. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite natural light and views of the skyline or jungle canopy depending on your room’s aspect. Soft cream and brown tones dominate, easy on the eyes and even easier on the soul. Parquet floors, scuffed in places, add warmth and a lived-in feel. Green-patterned carpets and mid-century modern furnishings strike just the right note between comfort and chic.
The beds are gloriously plush, the linens crisp and cool, and the spacious bathroom comes with a goodly-sized bathtub that promises to ease your fatigue away with a good soak.
But it’s the subtle in-room design touches that truly elevate, once you spot them. Throw cushions in the shape of the “stones” used the traditional batu seremban five stones game, for example. A table in the living room with built-in congkak hollows. In your bathroom, glazed enamel wash basins that harken to a different time, along with a Peranakan-style antique stool at one end — if you prefer showering sitting down — and an equally old-school enamel spittoon, once used for chewing betel nut but now simply for trash, at the other. And in your walk-in closet? Walls painted with graphics of vintage Chinese calendars.

Otherwise you have flagship eatery The Silver Monkey is a polished steakhouse with its own bar for some cut and class.
Service is attentive yet relaxed, mirroring the brand’s global DNA: unpretentious, authentic, and quietly intuitive. Staff members are eager to share local recommendations, or arrange an airport transfer on the double.
But perhaps its biggest draw is its immersive sense of place. Rather than creating a bubble that insulates you from the city, it connects you to the heart and soul of Kuala Lumpur sans the hustle and bustle.

While some Hotel Indigo properties can fall under a four-star classification, this is clearly a more upmarket, boutique one — especially with its well-appointed rooms — that pushes it towards the five-star category.
