The new menu from Le Bar at Jean-Pierre on Bridges Street elevates the classic Parisian cocktail hour with briny martinis, golden-age French classics, and indulgent bistro bites.

Hong Kong isn’t lacking for proper watering holes, but here’s a spot to drop in on if you’re looking for a little Parisian joie de vivre in liquid form. Black Sheep’s latest flourish on Bridges Street, Jean-Pierre, isn’t just a restaurant homage to Parisian bistro life — it’s now unveiled a new bar experience that promises to take your pre-dinner drinking to another level.

Anchored by the drama of its sweeping Art Deco marble bar, Le Bar at newly-opened Jean-Pierre channels the spirit of Paris at cocktail hour: convivial, unhurried, with just enough irreverence to keep it interesting. Oxblood marble and polished wood frame a stage where conversation flows as freely as the drinks, while the terrace, with its open air and city views, might just tempt you to stay a little later than you might expect.

The Cornicon Martini from Le Bar at Jean-Pierre

At the helm is Maître des Cocktails Suraj Gurung, whose playful, Paris-meets-Hong-Kong programme pays tribute to French classics with modern, sometimes cheeky, twists. His Cornichon Martini is already something of a signature — a dirty twist on the Martini that’s altogether crisp yet briny, while unmistakably Gallic in its homage to the humble pickle.

Equally alluring is the Chambord Margarita, lifted by the lush sweetness of Loire Valley raspberries, and the Vieux Carré, that moody New Orleans classic blending rye, cognac, vermouth, and Bénédictine for a deeply layered sip.

Seeking old-world glamour? Turn to the Sidecar, a timeless balance of cognac, citrus and Cointreau, or the cool, herbal bite of the Absinthe Frappé, drinks that recall the golden age of French café society.

A bite of Parisian bistro life

But Jean-Pierre knows no good drink is complete without something equally compelling on the plate, especially when your dinner reservations is still some time away. The new bar menu leans into unpretentious indulgence: the JP Burger, limited to just ten per evening, is said to be on track for cult status, while the Pierre Koffmann Frites served with silky aioli, and the gooey Croque Monsieur made with Paris’s famous Poilâne bread and Bentz jambon de Paris, channel the comforting soul of a classic French bistro.

With the unveiling of its standalone bar menu and elegant terrace, Le Bar at Jean-Pierre aims to be more than the gateway to dinner: it’s a place to linger, to toast, and to let the night unfurl in the best way.

Just don’t forget your dinner reservations.
