In a year marked by rising stars, sobering closures, and sharpened standards, the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2025 celebrates 288 establishments — with Sushi Sakuta promoted to two stars and Omakase @ Stevens joining the constellation of one-starred restaurants.

The latest MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2025 edition was unveiled at a glittery awards ceremony earlier this week, the annual food guide showering eateries across the Lion City with its stars as well as its Bib Gourmand and Select accolades. Altogether 288 venues were recognised for their excellence in Singapore’s dining scene, including three with three MICHELIN Stars, seven with two MICHELIN Stars, and 32 with one MICHELIN Star.

Chefs Sakuta and Yoshizawa of Sushi Sakuta

The biggest winner of MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2025 is Sushi Sakuta, which saw itself promoted to two MICHELIN Stars this year. The fine-dining Japanese restaurant by chef-owner Yoshio Sakuta (pictured above, left) — revered for its excellent season-driven omakase — received its second star in just its second year of operation.

Only one new Singapore restaurant was freshly minted with a MICHELIN Star: Omakase @ Stevens, helmed by Osaka native Chef Kazuke Arimoto who combines classic French techniques with his Japanese roots for seasonal omakase menus.

But the latest edition also saw the largest shake out since its inaugural guide was first introduced in 2016. MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2025 counted only 32 one-starred venues, compared to 42 last year.

And it’s not simply a case of MICHELIN inspectors becoming picky; among those that fell off the list are restaurants that have shuttered over the past year, an ominous sign of the increasingly challenging times facing Singapore’s dining scene.

Among those that have closed?

There’s Chef Kang — whose eponymous chef has officially retired — along with Matera, Poise, Sushi Kimura and Sommer all of which cited difficulties around rising rent, labour costs, and softening diner demand in the current climate. Rhubarb recently closed as well, although it has returned as a different concept, Encore by Rhubarb. Oshino and Art di Daniele Sperindio are slated to make their returns as well, in either a different form or location.

Beyond the regular stars, both Seroja and Fiz retain their Green Star status, recognising their eco-minded sourcing, waste-reducing innovations, and thoughtful culinary philosophies rooted in the region.

Jungle is located at Ann Siang Hill

In an earlier announcement, MICHELIN also welcomed nine newly awarded Bib Gourmand establishments, of which two — Bong Tong Kee (Balestier) and Ji Ji Noodle House — were moved from its MICHELIN Select list from last year. Among the new entrants is Kotuwa, a casual contemporary restaurant opened by Chef Rishi Naleendra of Cloudstreet fame that spotlights the cuisine of his native Sri Lanka, as well as Jungle, a punchy gastrobar peddling fiery Thai-inspired eats (pictured above).

The new guide also named 157 MICHELIN Selected eateries, 26 of which are new.

Also unveiled were the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2025 Young Chef Award presented by Blancpain, which was won by Kazuki Arimoto of newly-awarded one MICHELIN starred Omakase @ Stevens, while the Service Award and Sommelier Award went to Ines Carriere Boga of three MICHELIN starred Odette and Bella Jankaew of two MICHELIN starred Jaan by Kirk Westaway respectively.
