Avoca’s latest seasonal cocktails distils the rhythms of everyday Hong Kong into three inventive serves, transforming familiar local rituals into contemporary drinks that perfectly reflect Mondrian’s art-led, culture-first spirit.

For many hotel bars, seasonal cocktails tend to be little more than an excuse to showcase whatever fruit happens to be in season. At Avoca — the sky-high cocktail bar perched on the 38th floor of Mondrian Hong Kong — its three latest seasonal creations instead draws its inspiration from something far more meaningful: the everyday rituals that define life in the city.

Available now till end August, the three limited-time cocktails continue the bar’s ongoing exploration of contemporary Hong Kong culture through flavour. Rather than romanticising the past, Head Bartender Rolf Flaminiano and his team look to the familiar experiences that shape daily life, transforming everything from morning coffee runs to childhood probiotic drinks into polished contemporary serves.

Espresso Your Cherry

Leading the seasonal line-up is Espresso Your Cherry, an energetic highball inspired by Hong Kong’s enduring caffeine obsession, from bustling cha chaan tengs to independent specialty cafés. Combining Ratafia Rossi, cold brew coffee, vanilla, modern solution and cherry soda, it promises a bright, lively profile designed to mirror the city’s relentless pace.

If that captures Hong Kong at full throttle, Mandarin Spritz slows things down. Built with Aperol, pisco, pineapple and Prosecco before being finished with mandarin and bergamot soda, it evokes the leisurely pleasure of stepping off a ferry on a sunny weekend morning, balancing vibrant citrus with gentle tropical fruit in a drink made for golden-hour sipping.

Completing the trio is perhaps the most unmistakably local creation. Yik Lik Dor, named after the Cantonese pronunciation of Yakult, revisits a familiar childhood staple through an adult lens. Iichiko Saiten shochu joins Holzer Original, probiotic dairy, passionfruit, super lemon and Chinese black tea, creating a cocktail that is simultaneously nostalgic and edgy without ever losing sight of its Hong Kong roots.

As Flaminiano explains, these are “the everyday Hong Kong moments that don’t always make the guidebooks but absolutely shape who we are”.

The latest seasonal trio may be available for only two months at Avoca, but together they offer a different perspective snapshot of the bustling city — and of Mondrian’s signature blend of art, glamour and contemporary flair — served one glass at a time.
