While Singapore’s hotel boom continues to chase luxury and lifestyle travellers, Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Jurong is betting on the transformation of the city’s industrial west into its next major business and leisure district.
The recent debut of Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Jurong — which officially threw its doors earlier this week — represents something rather different from the usual Singapore hotel debut.
Singapore’s recent hotel development has leaned heavily towards the luxury and lifestyle segments, with openings such as Raffles Sentosa Singapore and Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree broadening the city’s resort offering beyond the traditional downtown hotel belt. Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Jurong on the other hand interestingly takes a more pragmatic position, targeting business travellers, meetings and events alongside value-conscious leisure guests in a part of the island still rarely considered a visitor destination.
After all, for decades Jurong has occupied a very different place in Singapore’s story from the neighbourhoods most international visitors know. While Marina Bay, Orchard Road and Sentosa accumulated luxury hotels and visitor attractions, the western district built its reputation as the industrial engine that helped power Singapore’s economic development.
Jurong’s industrial identity stretches back to the 1960s, when the area was developed into Singapore’s first major industrial estate and subsequently became an important manufacturing and employment centre. Today, the wider western region remains one of the country’s principal economic engines, but Jurong Lake District is being developed with considerably broader ambitions. Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority envisages it as the country’s largest mixed-use business district outside the city centre, incorporating offices, housing, retail, hotels, entertainment and public spaces around Jurong Lake Gardens.
The 557-room Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Jurong is a substantial refresh and rebranding of what used to be Genting Hotel Jurong, and becomes the latest Four Points by Sheraton address in Singapore. Operated by Resorts World Sentosa and part of Marriott International’s portfolio, the 15-storey hotel sits along Jurong Town Hall Road in Jurong Gateway, within walking distance of Jurong East MRT station and major shopping centres including Jem, Westgate and IMM.

The hotel itself is pitched firmly at the upper-midscale end of the market rather than attempting to compete with Singapore’s increasingly crowded luxury sector. Its 557 guestrooms and suites span Superior, Deluxe, Premier and Deluxe Suite categories, with interiors focused on practical comforts including work desks, USB charging points and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Facilities similarly reflect the hotel’s business-and-leisure positioning. Festive Café handles all-day dining, while an outdoor swimming pool, 24-hour fitness centre, self-service laundromat, roof gardens and sky terraces round out the recreational offering.
For leisure travellers, the immediate neighbourhood already offers Science Centre Singapore, Snow City and Jurong Lake Gardens, although these hardly constitute the concentrated sightseeing proposition of Marina Bay or Sentosa. The property’s proximity to major malls and transport connections nevertheless makes it a viable western base, particularly for travellers whose itineraries do not revolve around the traditional downtown core.
More consequential for Jurong’s growing commercial role is the hotel’s meetings infrastructure. Some 850 square metres of event space includes five meeting rooms and the 426-square-metre pillarless Genting Ballroom, which accommodates as many as 330 guests for seated functions. A rooftop Sky Lounge and adjoining lawn provide a less conventional option for receptions and smaller events.
With the Singapore government positioning Jurong Lake District as a leisure and edutainment precinct centred on science, technology, innovation and sustainability, the region is set for continued development. Against that backdrop, the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Jurong offers the district a large, internationally branded hotel serving business travellers, meetings and increasingly those leisure visitors choosing to stay out of the Lion City’s crowded centre.
