At a time when whisky brands are chasing trends and gimmicks, The Master’s Anthology from The Glendronach stands as a confident and poetic reaffirmation of sherry cask tradition, depth, and Highland soul.

You have to hand it to The Glendronach. In a time when the global whisky market is facing growing headwinds — from shifting consumer trends and tightening luxury spending to questions around transparency and provenance — the Aberdeenshire-based single malt Scotch whisky producer has just doubled down by releasing a whole new collection of whiskies.

And non-age statement ones at that.

Enter The Master’s Anthology, a new series of three single malt whiskies from The Glendronach that celebrate its penchant — and prowess — for heavily-sherried whiskies: Ode to the Valley, Ode to the Embers, and Ode to the Dark. This new collection, crafted under the guidance of acclaimed Master Blender Rachel Barrie, continues The Glendronach’s storied status in the world of richly-sherried Highland whiskies while exploring bold new territory in aroma, structure and, of course, storytelling.

The Master's Anthology by The Glendronach - Ode to the Valley

“The Master’s Anthology is a tribute to the art of sherry cask maturation, reflecting the exceptional taste and deep character that have become synonymous with The Glendronach over almost 200 years. This collection is a journey into the heart of our distillery, where time-honoured traditions and natural influences shape every drop of our whisky,” Barrie enthuses.

“Each bottling is a new composition where we amplify notes but we keep the rich harmony that is our tradition at the heart of the liquid,” she adds.

Matured in a marriage of ruby port and sherry casks, Ode to the Valley opens the anthology as a tribute to the Valley of Forgue in Aberdeenshire where The Glendronach distillery is situated, evoking sun-drenched fruit orchards and Highland charm. Meanwhile Ode to the Embers is the rare peated number from The Glendronach, a homage to the days of yore when peat was the only fuel used for distilling and when its smoke once perfumed the valley, while the Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks it’s been aged in offer The Glendronach’s familiar signature sherried DNA.

And Ode to the Dark? This rich, dark and full-bodied expression marks the crescendo of The Master’s Anthology series with a sherry bomb that’s been matured exclusively in Pedro Ximénez casks.

At a time when flashy packaging and celebrity collaborations often steal the limelight, The Master’s Anthology from The Glendronach offers something more enduring: depth, craft, and narrative. Each expression in this new range both a sensory journey and a poetic tribute to The Glendronach’s 200-year heritage in the Valley of Forgue.

For its enduring fans of the highest sherried order, The Glendronach has again pulled out all the stops to please. These are accessible new expressions with modern flair and premium bottling, yet it doesn’t compromise on flavour integrity. There’s no chill filtration, no artificial colouring, and no attempt to chase trends. Instead, it leverages the distillery’s historic strengths — especially in sherry cask sourcing and blending — to carve out relevance in today’s increasingly fragmented market.

The new range is a bold, confident reminder of what traditional single malt Scotch whisky can still do best.

Ode to the Valley, Ode to the Embers, and Ode to the Dark are available from Malt Wine Asia at a recommended retail price of S$158, S$168 and $188 respectively.

Official Tasting Notes – The Glendronach The Master’s Anthology

Ode to the Valley (46.2% ABV)

The Master’s Anthology begins its journey at the Valley of Forgue. In a bountiful twist of bramble vines, on the edge of the Scottish Highlands, sits The Glendronach Distillery. Here, the land gives its plentiful riches and inspired Ition of ruby port casks from the Douro valley in Portugal, and signature sherry casks, this expression presents sweet notes of floral nectar to dance in harmony with succulent ripe summer berries.

Colour Burnished copper
Nose Late summer berries and chocolate de leche imbued with sweet demerara and apricot glaze
Palate Sip blackberry and roasted apple crumble with freshly baked gingerbread and sweet damson plum

Ode to the Embers (48.4% ABV)

Ode to the Embers is a rare peated expression within The Master’s Anthology, in celebration of the ways of old when malt kilns cloaked barley grain in a warm smoke and the scent of smouldering peat whispered through the valley. A richly aromatic expression of The Glendronach, presenting intertwined notes of peat smoke, with a dominance of Oloroso sherry casks for spiced complexity, enriched with our signature Pedro Ximénez casks.

Colour Smouldering amber
Nose Cinnamon spiced toffee, apple and caramelised walnut brittle intertwine with flamed orange on a smouldering open fire
Palate Raisin and honeyed walnut meld with bramble ganache and smoked chocolate fudge

Ode to the Dark (50.8% ABV)

Ode to the Dark is the final, and richest expression, a crescendo ending within The Master’s Anthology. As evening folds slowly into night, darkness announces the coming of richer rewards. Matured in exceptional Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and bottled at high strength, this expression elevates richness with layers of flavour.

Colour Black garnet
